Performance Sports Turf Varieties
Performance Sports Turf varieties are generally available April through October. These varieties are the most desirable for home yard and athletic fields in Southern California. They require full sun and do not do well in shade. Performance Sports Turf varieties are some of the most rugged and drought resistant grasses. They do have a short winter dormancy period, albeit minimal in coastal areas. Performance Sports Turf varieties have a fine even texture and should be kept at 1/4 to 1/2 inch. A front throw, power reel mower (non-rotary) is recommended.
Aloha® Seashore Paspalum is a professional grade warm season sports turf developed for use on sports fields, golf courses and home lawns. Aloha® is a resilient playing surface and heals fast. Aloha® is fine textured with deep green color and demonstrates improved insect resistance. Aloha® uses up to 50% less water than fescue’s for irrigation and 75% less nitrogen for fertilization than Bermudagrass. Extremely salt tolerant, it stands up to salt spray, saltwater inundation and waterfront environments. Aloha® provides excellent drought tolerance and may be irrigated with water of varied quality including effluent, reclaimed and even seawater under the right conditions.
SeaDwarf® is the environmental turfgrass and is the only true dwarf Paspalum. SeaDwarf® produces high quality playing surfaces, resilient sports fields and luxurious home lawns. SeaDwarf® is a warm-season turfgrass with very fine texture and bright green color. It stands up to foot traffic and tolerates a wide range of mowing heights up to about four inches. SeaDwarf® demonstrates cold hardiness, shade tolerance and withstands prolonged wet conditions. SeaDwarf® uses up to 50% less water than fescue’s for irrigation and 75% less nitrogen for fertilization than Bermudagrass. Our new seeded variety, Bermuda Triangle, is an ideal sod- well suited for golf course fairways, athletic fields, parks and home lawns. It requires full sun and withstands moderate cold temperatures.
Tifway is an improved hybrid bermuda with excellent wear tolerance. It is an excellent choice for high traffic areas. With a fine texture, Tifway provides a dense turf capable of handling the stress of professional sports turf and the demands of golf course fairways and tees.
Tifgreen is a medium green, fine-textured, tough and durable hybrid bermuda turfgrass. It is a low-growing, resilient sod which is highly tolerant to heat, smog and heavy traffic. It is ideal for homes with young children and pets, since it can take normal abuse and quickly recover from damage. This is the most attractive of the bermudas.
